Malta Youth Orchestra in Concert

Malta Independent Thursday, 13 March 2014, 14:03 Last update: about 13 years ago

Following last year’s successful concert, the Malta Youth Orchestra will be hosting once again Swedish musicians from the Hvitfeldtska Musikgymnasiet Symphony Orchestra, in their yearly MYO in Concert. This year’s edition will be held on Saturday 15 March at the Auditorium of the Sacred Heart Convent, St Julians under the direction of Joseph Vella, the MYO’s Artistic Director and Peter Schöning, director of Hvitfeldtska Musikgymnasiets .

The Malta Youth Orchestra is the ‘sister ensemble’ of the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra and is made up of talented young musicians with ages ranging from 14 to 30. The target aim of the MYO is to provide an excellent opportunity for budding musicians to gain first-hand experience playing in an orchestra and, more importantly, to participate in the joy of ensemble music-making.

This year’s edition of the MYO in Concert offers an eclectic programme starting off with Telemann’s Viola concerto featuring MYO Viola Principal Joseph Mallia. Khachaturian’s lyrical Adagio from Spartacus ensues, followed by one of Schubert’s most popular works, his Symphony no 8 The Unfinished. The programme rounds off with a different genre altogether, with music from the movie Rocky.

The concert starts at 19:30 hrs and is open to the general public. Entrance is Free, seating on a first come first served basis.
