PN launches proposal to create jobs in digital gaming sector

Malta Independent Monday, 28 April 2014, 18:10 Last update: about 12 years ago

PN leader Simon Busuttil, visiting the company BMIT yesterday, launched a party proposal for the creation of new jobs and more opportunities for everyone, the PN said.

The proposal is based on the creative economy, particularly the digital gaming sector, it added. After PN governments nursed the sector after sowing the seeds, the PN will be calling on the government not to continue neglecting the sector, which could yield economic expansion and new jobs, Dr Busuttil said.

At BMIT, CEO Christian Sammut and CMO Jack Mizzi told Dr Busuttil that the company has invested substantially in the economy and today operates two data centres.

The PN said it is calling for collective activity on a national legel to develop the creative economy and the digital gaming sector, to create specific schemes which would include fiscal incentives to reputable companies to come to Malta for their operations, more investment in education of young people and their training, and seed capital schemes for start-ups in the sector.

Dr Busuttil said the government must from today devote attention to the development and diverisifcation of tomorrow’s economy and new jobs have to be created.

The government has been in office for a year but the sector seems to be neglected and it is concerning that the Labour government has not yet announced a clear vision for the country economic develoment. What was worse is that the government has given no indication about new economic sector it will be developing, Dr Busuttil said.

The government, he added, is clearly bereft of ideas about job creation for all, not only for the party’s inner circle.
