My Selfie –My Cultural Identity

ICOM Malta, the National Committee of the International Council of Museums, a non-governmental/non-profit organisation is engaged on raising awareness on how important Museums are in the development of society. On the occasion of International Museum Day, which this year carries the theme ‘Museum Collections Make Connections’, ICOM Malta this year has organised a competition

‘My Selfie –My Cultural Identity’. The competition is open to people of all ages, participants are being asked to choose an artefact from any museum and take a selfie with it, submit their selfies on a specially-set-up Facebook page entitled ‘My Selfie –My Cultural Identity’, and to caption the photo with a simple sentence explaining why the sitter chose that particular museum or artefact.

 

Further supplementing this competition and celebrating International Museum Day (Sunday, 18th May) are special offers from –

 

St John’s Co-Cathedral will be open free of charge on Saturday, 17th May from 1300-1730hrs (last admission 1700)

Casa Rocca Piccola – A special tour will be held on Sunday 18th May at noon and a glass of prosecco will be offered to all visitors

Wignacourt Museum– A family-oriented tour will be offered on Sunday 18th May at 1100hrs and adult-oriented tours will take place at 1100 and 1400hrs. Family trails and activity sheets will also be provided.

 
International Museum’s Day is a yearly worldwide event which has been organised since 1977: http://network.icom.museum/international-museum-day  We encourage the general public to take advantage of the above offers and to participate in the competition.

 

1st PRIZE: €100 cash from ICOM-Malta.

2nd PRIZE: €50 from BDL.

3rd PRIZE: €30 from BDL.

 

Winners will also each be given an exhibition catalogue of the 100 Objects Exhibition from Heritage Malta, two tickets to visit Palazzo Falson Historic House Museum, Mdina and a bottle of champagne courtesy of Casa Rocca Piccola, Valletta.
