Malta, through the Civil Aviation Directorate of Transport Malta, recently concluded an Air Services Agreement (ASA) and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Algeria that supersedes an earlier Memorandum of Understanding signed in 1982. The agreements were finalized with the Director of Civil Aviation and Meteorology of Algeria, Mr Mr. Smain Youcef Azzi, during his visit at the Authority's Corporate Office in Marsa.

Capt Charles Pace, on behalf of Director General George Borg Marks, expressed his gratitude for the discussions that were held in a cordial and friendly atmosphere, furthermore to the fact that a complete understanding for mutual benefits was reached at all times.  He reiterated his satisfaction that this MoU brought a further open market between the two countries and Air Malta can benefit further, due to more airports open than just Algiers.

Mr Smain Youcef Azzi thanked both delegations and invited the Maltese delegation to Algiers while expressing his wish that the MoU which was signed, will foster new economy between the two countries.

The delegation from Malta was composed of representatives from Transport Malta - Civil Aviation Directorate, the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and the Ministry for Tourism.  Air Malta was also part of the discussions since it is the designated carrier by the Maltese Government. Together with the Director General, the delegation from Algeria was composed of representatives from the Ministry for Transport and Air Algerie, as designated air carrier for Algeria.
