The official programme for Malta’s Presidency of the European Union Council in 2017 will be discussed during a TRIO meeting in Bratislava, Slovakia.
Addressing a MUESAC Core Group Meeting, Parliamentary Secretary Ian Borg said that Malta will be ensuring that issues relating to immigration and Mediterranean will be placed high up on the agenda. Malta will also be supporting the Energy Union, social affairs and the common market.
He said that The European Neighbourhood Policy will be revised and concluded during Malta’s Presidency and therefore Malta needs to be well prepared.
Dr Borg said that Malta will be closely monitoring the EU referendum promised by David Cameron, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. However, the United Kingdom will remain a member of TRIO and Malta should remain unaffected.
