The Mgarr local council today expressed its concern about the suggestion made by Labour MP Etienne Grech for a study to be carried out about improving the accessibility to the Fomm ir-Rih Bay.
In a statement, the council said that this bay is an environmental jewel that should be left in its natural state. This bay offers a spectacular view to those who appreciate nature, and should not be touched, the council said.
The council is against the idea of increasing accessibility to the bay, as this would lead to its commercialisation and loss of environmental value.
The council said that this bay should be safeguarded and the only intervention should be to clean it up with the use of boats.
It said it expects to be consulted if the government has any project in mind for the bay.
