Libya-born Yousef Kalifa, 22, who allegedly stole four mobile phones on separate occasions this month and escaped police custody briefly while at the Floriana polyclinic, today was remanded in custody. His legal aid did not make a request for bail. He also stands accused of breaching the conditions of a previous sentence handed out to him on 4 April.
The accused stands charged with stealing a Samsung Galaxy S6 from Marina Olmedo Calvo at St George’s Bay, St Julians at 4 a.m. on 11 July and of escaped police custody on the same day. He also stands accused of stealing an iPhone from Iris Petronella Cornelissed on 19 July from Paceville.
On the night between 18 and 19 July he allegedly stole two other mobile phones from Paceville to the detriment of two unknown persons.
Magistrate Marsanne Farrugia presided over the case while Police Inspector Elton Taliana prosecuted.
