Bobby, a popular Dhallywood actress, is all set to feature in a film which is to be entirely shot in Malta. Eighty per cent of the film’s dialogue will reportedly be in Bengali, while the rest will be in English and Maltese.
Shooting will begin on 15 October. The name of the film is likely to be ‘Malta’.
Bobby, who signed on to the film last week, told a Bangladeshi news outlet, “I was eagerly waiting for a project like this. If things go right, this film will be a landmark in my career.”
Iftekhar Ahmed, director and screenwriter of the film, said that he had been planning another film starring Mosharraf Karim and Riya Sen in London, but the project was ultimately cancelled.
“Meanwhile, I had chats with some UK-based producers who wanted to make a film that reflects the lifestyle of Malta - this is how the film happened for us,” he said.
The male lead has not yet been selected for the film. The director and other crew will choose someone for the role from Bangladesh or Kolkata, Iftekhar added.
The film will be produced by a UK-based production house, KB Pictures, Triton Film Production, and Maltese composer Paul Abela.
Abela has extensive experience as a musical director, including on productions such as Jesus Christ Superstar, The Sound of Music, Evita, Annie, Les Miserables in concert, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, La Cage Aux Folles, Anything Goes, Seven Brides For Seven Brothers, Fiddler on the Roof, South Pacific, Blood Brothers and Cabaret.
