The two men who were caught within parliamentary grounds last Sunday were arraigned in court today, facing charges with the aim of theft from parliament of building materials, entering restricted property without permission and relapsing.

The two men entered the Yellow Garage, which the prosecution said forms part of Parliament and were caught there.

The two men, Eman Zammit, 36 from Zabbar and Clayton Fava, 28 from Zabbar were represented by lawyer Joseph Ellis, as their legal aid lawyer.

An argument broke out over bail. The prosecution argued against bail, stating that the accusation was one of theft from the highest institution on the island.

Dr Ellis, pushing for bail, argued that the two were caught in Parliament as they sought shelter from the rain. He argued that the incident was blown out or proportion to the scale of Guy Fawkes, “When in reality all they did was seek shelter from the rain”.

He said that the two men are still innocent until proven guilty. He also argued that there don’t seem to be any civilian witnesses.

The court did not grant them bail and they pleaded not guilty.
