Labour whip Godfrey Farrugia was discharged form hospital today after all necessary medical tests were carried out, the Department of Information said.

Godfrey Farrugia, 55, was diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer.

Earlier, his partner Marlene Farrugia had written on Facebook that Godfrey "might be sent home today".

Writing on Facebook, Marlene Farrugia said there will be "celebration every day until we stop for the next step".

The government said that agter the diagnosis was confirmed, a date now has to be established for the medical intervention to take place in London.

The statement said that Dr Farrugia will continue serving as the Labour Party whip until he flies to London for the operation. Dr Farrugia is then expected to resume his duties a few weeks after the aurgery.

He revealed his condition last Saturday.
