The need for serious leadership at Kordin’s Corrective Facility has become an urgent one, the Nationalist Party said in a statement.

The Labour Party had pledged that it will eradicate drugs from prison, but this is not the case today, it said.

“There needs to be someone professional managing prison, and Raymond Zammit is not suitable for the role, given he was found guilty of abusing of his power to cover up the shooting incident by the former driver of former minister Manuel Mallia. Mr Zammit also went into business with controversial entrepreneur Gaffarena,” the statement said.

In reply, the government said it is constantly tackling the problem of drugs in prison. 

It said the current administration introduced more frequent drug tests, and invested in sniffer dogs. 

It was these sniffer dogs that found the drugs, the government said.
