A man who is wanted in his native Holland in connection with armed robbery and extortion was remanded in custody until a criminal case he is facing here in Malta is brought to a close.

In 2009, Biondy Clayd Reafenberg, 25, was sentenced to serve time in the Netherlands. He is currently undergoing proceedings in the Maltese courts in connection with a sexual assault which allegedly took place at St Andrew’s in October.

A European Arrest Warrant was issued by the Dutch authorities earlier this week. When the Malta Police received the EAW and ran a computer search on the man, he was listed as being the same person who was involved in a sexual assault case. The police waited for Mr Reafenberg to go to the Valletta police station to sign the bail book in order to arrest him but he did not turn up. He was then located by the police at a restaurant he works at in Old Theatre Street, Valletta.

Magistrate Gabriella Vella fined him €150 for having failed to sign the bail book.

His defence lawyer – Victor Bugeja – argued that his client had never failed to sign the bail book before.
