Mintoff Foundation official Josef Grech has been found not guilty of fraud today.
Inspector Maurice Curmi charged Mr Grech with defrauding Go Plc out of €5,500 in December 2010 and January 2011, when he purchased mobile phones and top-up cards using a Lourdes Philharmonic Society of Paola chequebook. He is a member of the committee.
The relevant bank account had been closed and the cheques dishonoured. The defence argued that Mr Grech was not the treasurer and was not the sole person on the club's committee, and that he was instructed to purchase the items which were going to be given as prizes in a lottery.
Magistrate Peralta presided.
Mr Grech is currently undergoing an appeal against a separate case, where he was given a 20-month prison sentence after having been found guilty of defrauding musicians.
