The chairman of the Cottonera Rehabilitation Committee said the committee was unaware that it had been earmarked for the American University project. 

When reached for comments, chairman Charles Flores stated that the committee had made some recommendations for the use of Dock 1 buildings, but it had not been informed that it was being considered for the new university.

On Thursday, the Prime Minister said that that the government had scaled down the size of the new university campus in Marsascala and said that a second site - Dock 1 - had been earmarked for a second campus.

Mr Flores added that although the committee was not consulted on the University development happening at Dock 1, he was completely in favour of the proposal and had encouraged development in that area previously. 

When asked to comment about any previous plans for Dock 1, he stated that there had been several proposals for the area however nothing had been confirmed. He added that certain other proposals for development at Dock 1 may come to fruition in conjunction with the American University, due to the large size of the area.
