The police are investigating a case in which a foreign young man was kicked repeatedly by an unknown group of people after he fell to the ground in the parking lot of Gianpula nightclub two Sundays ago..
This newsroom sent questions last Saturday to the police asking whether they had called in the victim. It is informed that the police called him in earlier this week and interviewed him.
In replies to this newsroom’s questions, the media relations unit within the Police Force said that the police spoke to the victim as part of their ongoing investigations but said that no CCTV cameras are installed in the area where the beating took place.
The foreigner – who is in his early thirties - is understood to have been beaten by a group of unknown persons while walking in the dark parking lot. He was left unconscious.
Sources close to the victim told this newsroom that the friends of the victim fled the scene as soon as they saw him being beaten by the group. “They were terrified to see what was happening and ran away,” sources said.
It is not yet clear whether the victim was initially also hit by a car driven by his assailants before he was beaten. Sources said that what is certain is that he was repeatedly kicked in the face.
Gianpula owners says they offered assistance the minute they were made aware of the case
Matthew de Giorgio, who runs the Gianpula nightclub, told this newsroom that the owners of the club offered assistance to the victim all the support they could the minute they learnt about the case in question.
Mr de Giorgio said that the owners of the club had not been made aware of the case immediately and only learnt of the case from social media and the media.
“We approached the victim and tried to help out. We also asked around to see whether anyone had witnessed the episode, including our car park attendants and taxi drivers who were working on the night but unfortunately none said that they had witnessed the beating.
“The parking lot where the alleged beating took place is quite big,” he continued.
