In the first two years of the current legislature, there has been an increase of 12,750 people being employed full time - an increase of 1,500 over that registered during the five years of the previous administration, the government said in a statement.

It noted that this means an increase of 17 full- time jobs each day – three times as much as the increase during Nationalist Administration.

2,900 jobs were available in the administrative services, 1000 in technical and professional sectors, 1,100 in financial services and 900 in IT. Another 1,100 jobs were created in the retail sector, 600 in the tourism industry and 1,300 in the gaming sector.

Within the private sector, 400 jobs were created in manufacturing and 600 in construction. There was also an increase of 1,000 jobs within the education sector.

8 of 10 jobs created in private sector

As from the start of the legislature, there has been an increase of 10,200 people working full-time within the private sector – that is 8 out of each 10 jobs created.  This the government said, is contrary to what the Opposition is claiming – that the increase in employment was within the public sector.

26.2% of employees work within the public sector, as opposed to 26.7% during the previous administration.  There has been an increase of 1,200 of people working in public health services.

In Gozo, there has been an increase of 800 full-time jobs.

The government promised to continue achieving positive results and creating more employment opportunities.
