The Marsascala Football Club noted with concern that the full-sized football ground is at this stage no longer part of the intrinsic project and that in the process is being asked to renounce to its only office, based at Zonqor Point.

Nevertheless the club intends to wholeheartedly collaborate with the government as much as possible since it believes that the whole project is beneficial to the Marsaskala community. In this context we feel that everyone should be striving to attain the maximal positive impact on our town with this opportunity.

In a statement referring to the announcement of amendments in the proposed plans for the American University of Malta, the club said that notwithstanding the fact that the earmarked full-size football ground is no longer part of the project, Marsascala FC welcomed Prime Minister Dr Joseph Muscat’s confirmation that an agreement has been reached with our club in that a full size football ground with ancillary facilities will be constructed in Marsaskala within the concurrent timeframe when the American University of Malta is completed.

It is pertinent to stress that Marsascala FC receives mounting daily protests and complaints from the parents of the very subtantial young population, that accounts to over 5,000 children, requesting us to pressure the government to address with urgency Marsascala’s social needs due to the absolute lack of recreational field sports facilities.

Suffice to note that community profiling of Marsascala will attest that it is Malta’s largest population, hovering close to twenty thousand, without football facilities. The time is opportune to locate here the much-awaited regional football ground in south-eastern of Malta, that is still lacking and in stark contrast with the rest of Malta and Gozo.

Finally, Marsascala Football Club offered its collaboration with the government and to establish a longstanding relationship with the American University of Malta, in the success of this project.
