The court today ruled that there are sufficient grounds for Pierre Cremona, accused of aggravated drug possession and dangerous driving, to be indicted.

Police monitored Pierre Cremona’s movements near the MacDonalds in Gharghur thanks to a tip-off, where he was arrested for drug possession in August this year.

The 42-year-old Qormi man stands charged with possession of 400g of cannabis, dangerous driving and causing damage to a police vehicle.

Testifying in court, inspector Gabriel Micallef said the accused was caught with a brown packet containing the cannabis on the passenger’s seat of his car. He was stopped when exiting the MacDonald’s car park. The inspector told the court that he received information that a drug deal was going to take place involving Mr Cremona and the police monitored the area.

When the accused realised he was surrounded, the court heard, he reversed and stopped at the corner, where the police rammed his vehicle and arrested him.

Mr Cremona is one of two men who escaped injury from a bomb blast in September 2013 at a boathouse in Armier.

Bail was granted by Magistrate Neville Camilleri against a €1,000 deposit and a €10,000 personal guarantee.

Lawyers Franco Debono, Veronique Dalli and Marion Camilleri appeared for the defence, and Inspector Gabriel Micallef prosecuted.
