Christopher Schembri, 32, of Sliema, was remanded in custody after he was charged with stealing his mother’s Mercedes Benz, without the car having had a road licence and for having used another car’s registration plates.

His mother is understood to have reported her son to the police. She told police that her son asked for the keys of the car but she refused. Her son got angry and left their home, only for her to discover that he had taken the car out of the garage and left. She also noted that the registration plates of her husband’s truck had gone missing. She called her son up to return home. Her son is understood to have told her that he would be returning shortly but his mother filed a report.

He was remanded in custody after the defence said that it feared he would approach the witnesses, his parents. Magistrate Natasha Galea Sciberras also took note of past convictions of his.
