20 officers from the detention services have been awarded certificates after attending a course on first aid in the workplace.

The training course was organised by the Emergency Response and Rescue Corps and was part of a holistic training effort to boost the abilities of the service’s human resource.

Home Affairs Minister Carmelo Abela spoke about the importance of providing training to detention staff even in a period where migration is largely controlled, unlike previous years. The crisis is, however, far from solved and the authorities are closely following all developments.

 Mr Abela said the government’s commitment towards the interests of detention service employees was factual.  Detention staff have already been given dignity and more favourable working conditions and through a sectoral agreement signed a few weeks ago. Now they are also contributing in other places where there services are required.
