A man travelling from Libya yesterday tried to claim asylum on arrival in Malta, after first showing immigration officials a fake French passport and then showing them his real Libyan one, a court heard today.

Ali Abduraziq Alhadi Ararah, 28, from Tripoli, admitted to travelling to Malta from Libya using the fake French passport.

Magistrate Ian Farrugia sentenced Ararah to six months imprisonment.

Inspector Victor Aquilina prosecuted.
