Gozitan ‘captain’ fined €5,000 for sailing unregistered boat without insurance cover

A man who was caught sailing a boat without registration and insurance has been fined €5,000 by a court.

Joseph Camilleri, 45, from Ghajnsielem, was also charged with breaching the conditions of a previous conditional discharge and relapsing.

The court heard how Transport Malta had informed the police that Mr Camilleri was making use of an unregistered vessel.

The police had boarded the boat at the Blue Lagoon in Comino in August 2014 and Mr Camilleri had failed to produce his registration and insurance documents.

Magistrate Joe Mifsud fined Mr Camilleri €5,000 and warned him that faiilure to make the montly payments could be translated into jail time.
