Updated (2): Police inspector assaulted after stopping driver at Mdina

A police inspector was injured this morning by a driver who was stopped for a roadside check near Mdina, in the area known as Ta' Srina

The inspector, Sergio Pisani, stopped a BMW carrying foreign number plates at around 11.30am. The officer was requesting some information from the driver when the incident happened.

The inspector, who was accompanied by two other officers, is receiving medical attention for injuries sustained. The polie said that he suffered slight injuries.

The driver is a 50-year-old Maltese man from Mqabba. He has been arrested.

Inspector Sandro Camilleri, president of the Police Officers Union, said that the officer suffered a concussion when he was hit in the eye.

Writing on Facebook, Inspector Camilleri said the aggressor is well-known to the police and had been found guilty of attacking another officer in the past.
