Birdlife in Sicily

Monday, 11 April 2016, 13:05 Last update: about 9 years ago

BirdLife Malta, Adult Activities Group once again organised a successful day trip to Sicily for members and friends. The trip included a 5km trek to the beautiful nature park of Cava dei Servi at San Giacomo, situated on the outskirts of Ragusa. This was the site of human settlements of the early Bronze Age and contains innumerable small artificial grotto sepulchres hollowed on the sides of the rock faces. The quarry contains a running stream at the deepest end and is very rich in vegetation.

Following lunch at a typical agritourism farm, the group proceeded to Noto where participants visited and admired the various historical churches and palaces which make this town a world heritage site. The group was led by Ray Vella, forest ranger who was assisted by guides from the Kalura Associazione

Another activity is being organised for members on 24 April. This will include a tour of the Ghadira Nature Reserve, bird ringing and a guided walk of the Foresta 2000.

Members of the public are urged to support BirdLife Malta which can be contacted on  [email protected].
