Nature Trust Malta collaborated with Konnekt Search & Selection Ltd and Preeo Studios Ltd in organising a clean-up for the companies' CSR event. Set up in June 2007, Konnekt Search & Selection Ltd is one of Malta's largest private recruitment consultancy firms. Konnekt Ltd uses a recruitment methodology in order to deliver search and selection solutions within the wider scope of Human Resources Management and Development. Furthermore, Preeo Studios Ltd is a Website Design and Development firm in Malta. Preeo Studios Ltd creates web applications tailored specifically for various business requirements. The agency also provides software development and expert consultation services.
The clean-up which was covered by a Mepa permit since this area is a Natura 2000 site that is of EU ecological importance, was held on 16 March at the Marsaxlokk Saline Marshland Nature Reserve and it lasted for two hours. Prior to the clean-up, an introduction was given to the participants, which included information on the ecological importance of the site, followed by a message of appreciation from the Mayor of Marsaxlokk.
A total of 30 employees collected 425 kilos in 71 garbage bags of waste from the site, ranging from plastic bottles to fishing rope to household appliances and more. The waste was hand-picked and disposed of in a skip sponsored by the Marsaxlokk Local Council, which supported this event. The Marsaxlokk Saline Marshland is a Natura 2000 site which is in dire need of conservation measures and the appointment of a managing body by Mepa. The Marsaxlokk Saline Marshland was declared protected and given its status as a Nature Reserve in 1983. Locally we only find six sites which hold a salt marsh habitat in a relatively good state and the rarity of saline marshlands makes them an even more valuable component of our islands' natural heritage.
