Updated: PM is a hostage of Konrad Mizzi and Keith Schembri – Simon Busuttil

Thursday, 28 April 2016, 19:08 Last update: about 10 years ago

The Prime Minister is a hostage of Konrad Mizzi and Keith Schembri, and the reshuffle that took place today is a confirmation that Joseph Muscat is involved in the Panama Papers scandal, Opposition Leader Simon Busuttil said today.

Today, the PM chose to keep them on board, he took the decision to keep the two of them in their position, and the conclusion that can be drawn from this is that he is an accomplice with them, he said.

The PM's decision is an insult to the population, an attempt to say that the PM is doing something about corruption but, in effect, is doing nothing about it.

Today we woke up with Konrad Mizzi and Keith Schembri with the PM in Castille, and in spite of what was said about taking a decision, the fact remains that we will go to sleep with both of them still in Castille.

What is worse is that Manwel Mallia has now returned to the Cabinet, after he had kicked Dr Mallia out Dr Busuttil said.

The Opposition will be taking all the measures within its responsibilities to push Joseph Muscat, Keith Schembri and Konrad Mizzi to shoulder their own responsibilities.

"The only way government can defend itself is by shouting lies against others".

The decision by the PM to leave Konrad Mizzi as the minister responsible for the power station project is also proof that nothing has changed. Mizzi's position is now stronger as he holds a ministerial position in Castille.

Dr Busuttil said the Opposition was not consulted on the nomination of Leo Brincat as Malta's representative at the European Court of Auditors, and expects that the government consults with it.

Dr Busuttil said PM Muscat portrays himself as someone who takes decisions, but what he did today shows the complete opposite.

PM Muscat has no respect to the truth, as he turns it upside down. We all know that he did not decide anything, but he gives the impression that he did something enormous. It is clear that the PM tried to take the people for a ride, Dr Busuttil said.

The Opposition Leader also stressed that he will continue to call on the authorities to investigate the Prime Minister, Konrad Mizzi and Keith Schembri, as well as every single contract which passed their desks. He also highlighted that Malta is about to see its 5th police commissioner. "When you open a secret Panama company, while being a minister or his Chief of Staff, the only intention there is, is corruption".
