Europa 2016 postage stamp issue: Think Green

Monday, 9 May 2016, 15:39 Last update: about 9 years ago

Tomorrow MaltaPost will join other European postal administrations by the release of a philatelic stamp set with the theme Think Green to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Europa stamp issues. The theme is intended to express the world's aspiration for a better and cleaner environment.

The Malta stamps portray illustrations by two different artists. The €0.59 stamp was designed by artist Doxias Sergidou for Cyprus Post and was chosen from among 24 other designs. The design highlights the fact that ensuring a cleaner planet is a common responsibility and duty. The €2.19 stamp was designed by Sean Cini of MaltaPost who was inspired by that of Cyprus Post and seeks to transpose the same message within a Maltese context. The stamp features the 18th century Ta' Kola windmill in Xagħra, Gozo.

The stamps will be issued in two sheetlets bearing 11 stamps. Each stamp measures 44mm x 31mm, has a 13.9 x 14.0 (comb.) perforation bearing the Maltese Crosses watermark. The sheetlets measure 158mm x 150mm.  The stamps were produced by Printex Ltd in the offset process and the issue consists of 35,200 of the €2.19 stamp and 52,800 of the €0.59.

This philatelic issue will be available from all Post Offices in Malta and Gozo as from tomorrow, 9 May.
