St Martin's Institute of Higher Education, a licensed higher education institution by the National Commission for Further & Higher Education and Affiliate Institution of the University of London, held its annual graduation ceremony on Friday, 2 September where 38 students were conferred with the Malta Qualification Framework level 5 Diploma in Entrepreneurship, Diploma in Computing & Information Systems or Diploma in Creative Computing. Nine students attained the coveted Distinction in their respective diplomas.
Dr Benedetta Cappellini, the director for the Royal Holloway, University of London International Programme, presented the Diploma to the graduates and congratulated them on this first step towards attaining their respective degrees.
Anna Koval won the Bank of Valletta Academic Achievement Award in Entrepreneurship, who, together with runner-up Joudi Dribika received a monetary gift by Edward Grech, chief officer Consumer Credit of Bank of Valletta, sponsor of this award.
Twenty-eight students received commendation by the Institute on scoring the highest distinction mark in their respective examinations from the Maltese cohort, while four students also received their special commendation for scoring the highest distinction mark globally with marks attained topping the 90. James Lanzon attained top global mark in Electronic Commerce, John Sammut in Introduction to Computing & the Internet, Dylan Busuttil in Data Compression and last but not least Massimo Saliba came first globally in Graphical Object-Oriented and Internet Programming in Java. Kenneth Camilleri, the director on programme accreditation from the NCFHE presented the letters, and in his address spoke about the importance of keeping standards in higher education while at the same time being in touch with the realities of the needs of students. The attainments received during this graduation ceremony surpass even the most stringent international standards.
The Institute offers programmes for a number of Diploma programmes which lead to the conferment of Degrees by the world renowned University of London. This year, 50 students have graduated in their respective degrees and will be receiving their conferment during the University of London Graduation Ceremony on 7 March 2017 at the Barbican, London under the auspices of Her Royal Highness Princess Anne, Chancellor of the University of London.
