The fascination that Strait Street in Valletta inspires in visitors was amply evident during a recent talk by George Cini, who authored two books about this famous street, to Rotarians at the Intercontinental Hotel in St Julian's. The talk was organised by  

Rotary Club La Valette Malta.

Although most cities, particularly those close to seaports have streets offering entertainment similar to the kind Strada Stretta offered, the audience was intrigued to learn how people found ways and means to make a living and survive in Strait Street which presented a world that was anything but a rose garden.

Apart from Maltese members, the event was also attended by Rotarians from Turkey, Sweden and Australia who were visiting the island.

The Rotarians from Istanbul explained how they are raising funds to purchase Braille typewriters for students in the Turkish capital. Rotary Club La Valette will be assisting in that campaign. Rotary is an international organisation whose primary aim is to bring business and professional people together to provide humanitarian services.
