A new attractive geographical wall chart of the Maltese Islands has been produced in line with the national curriculum to suit the needs of students at secondary level. Education and Employment Minister Evarist Bartolo was presented with the first copies.

Care has been taken for the Maltese name places to be brought up to date. The map serves as a useful tool to create awareness among students and to understand the surface features of our islands.

This project has been undertaken by local company Audio Visual Centre Ltd, in collaboration with reputable Austrian publisher, Cartographic Institute Freytag & Berndt, one of the oldest cartographic houses in the world with headquarters in Vienna.

Well-known geologist Dr Peter Gatt is another contributor, whose input has provided valuable geological information which includes a geological overview of the Central Mediterranean and a geological rock cross-section of Malta which shows the stratigraphy as well as deformation of the rock.

The map has a unique chart of the 68 council delineations and their coat of arms. The map contains a wealth of geographical information that can be sourced through a detailed legend.

The wall chart was inaugurated at the recent National Book Fair.
