Opening Doors is an arts organisation that provides opportunities for adults with diverse intellectual needs. With an exciting yearly programme of events, the NGO goes from strength to strength. This is Ability is a mini festival celebrating the work of local and European disabled artists.
Coinciding close to World Disability Day, occurring on 3 December, Opening Doors is spearheading an exciting arts platform, which will run at St James Cavalier between 7 and 11 December, part of Spazju Kreattiv's season programme.
This is Ability will appeal to anyone curious about the creative contribution disabled artists offer the local arts scene, the relevance of disability arts today and what creative processes artists and directors adopt in this sector. The events will also inform those working or wishing to work within the disability arena, as well as families of persons with disabilities, or anyone wanting to join a creative arts group. The programme will include two seminars, performances by the group, live performance installations by the groups' tutors, international films as well as an exhibition. All activities are fully accessible to wheelchair users (please use the entrance at Main Reception, Parliament side) and most of the events have free entrance.
There will also be an open integrated movement session on Saturday, 10 December from 10 to 11.15am. This class would appeal to dancers and actors with and without disability as well as members of the public who wish to have a creative experience. To book your seat send an email on [email protected]. The full programme will be listed the Facebook page, Opening Doors Association Malta.
Opening Doors offers opportunities to adults to turn to the arts, in order to excel in their skills, learn new ones, communicate effectively and to also team up with others on a social basis. Currently our NGO offers training in theatre, dance and music skills. We also offer our members the opportunity of performance, through performance jams as well as full theatrical pieces.
Our mission is to make the arts a possibility to all. Come and join in the conversation, our volunteering programme, or simply enjoy our work. We turn disability arts into ability arts for all.
Opening Doors Association is supported by Arts Council Malta through a Cultural Partnership Agreement and a five-year Collaboration Agreement with Fondazzjoni Kreattivita'. The organisation is also funded by Premju tal-President managed by the Office of the President and Arts Council Malta, Aġenzija Żgħażagħ and supported by Teatru Manoel, Alison White Dance Studio and The Box - A Creative Arts Space.
