The Education Ministry announced this morning that a planned strike at the Hamrun Lyceum has been postponed following a “lengthy conciliation meeting” held on Thursday.

Teachers were reportedly planning on striking for an hour on Monday over the challenging environment created by the student catchment area which, the MUT says, has turned the school into a “ghetto.”

The ministry said this morning that it and the MUT came to an agreement on an action plan for Ħamrun Senior School.

“The plan has a list of several measures, some of which will come into effect by next Monday. The plan includes strategies that better address the needs of the school, the strengthening of the school management team, a revision of the school’s behaviour policy, deployment of additional teachers, deployment of a receptionist with security/monitoring duties, an overhaul of correctional measures which are leaving no or adverse effects, and others.

The Government and the MUT therefore agree on the strengthening of infrastructure of school’s needs to assure the best school atmosphere that allows educators to perform and meet the educational needs of their various students.”
