This government is paying overdue bills worth €67 million for the building of schools undertaken by the previous Nationalist Party (PN) government that were never paid for, the Education Ministry said in a press release issued this morning.

It said that in 2013, the Foundation for Tomorrow’s Schools was left with €67 million worth of debts, with a high rate of interest amounting to €1.6 million per year.

“Each school built by the previous government was never paid for, so it is this government that will have to make good on the payments,” it said.

This information came to light after it was tabled in Parliament. Responding to a Parliamentary Question Education Minister Evarist Bartolo said debts at FTS in 2001 amounted to little more than €100,000.
