Gozitan PN candidate Kevin Cutajar hailed the move taken by Jean Pierre Debono this morning, saying that it is the first step on the common sense road.

Debono gave up the parliamentary co-option in spite of winning a vote taken at the PN executive committee meeting last Saturday. He beat Cutajar by a slim 42-40 margin, following which there has been a raging controversy regarding the voting process.

Speaking with The Malta Independent, Kevin Cutajar, said that Jean Pierre Debono giving up the seat is the first step for common sense.

“From the verifications which I have made, it seems Jean Pierre Debono will be dropping his nomination. This is the first step for common sense to win, both in the party as well as for Gozo. As I have always said, the seat left by David Stellini is a seat which the Gozitans voted for and I feel, as a Gozitan, that it should remain for the Gozitans.”

He said that nobody from the party has contacted him yet.
