Enchanting musical evening at Tarxien Temples

Tuesday, 11 June 2019, 12:40 Last update: about 6 years ago

On Saturday, 15 June, the Unesco World Heritage Site of Tarxien Temples will turn into a unique setting for a musical evening offered by Heritage Malta in collaboration with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra. Through this event, Heritage Malta is joining a number of museums and heritage sites across European cities as part of the European Archaeology Days taking place between 14 and 16 June.

This evening will feature the MPO String Quartet, formed by current members of the orchestra. The programme presents well-known classics from different musical genres while featuring a number of operatic arias.

The public can opt to attend the performance at 8pm while the sun is setting down or at 9.30pm to experience the music under the stars. A glass of wine will be served at each performance which lasts 40 minutes. Ticket holders are advised to be on site 15 minutes before the time of the performance.

For half a century, the MPO has been Malta's leading musical ensemble. As Malta's only professional orchestra, the MPO averages more than one performance a week, including symphonic concerts, opera productions in Malta and Gozo, community outreach and educational initiatives, as well as various concerts of a lighter nature.

The orchestra has performed in leading venues across the globe, including the USA, Russia, Germany, Austria, China, Italy and Belgium. Presently it is embarking on at least one international tour each concert season.

A keen exponent of Maltese composers, the MPO is also responsible for the training and professional development of the next generation of Maltese musicians, through the MPO Academy and Malta Youth Orchestra.

Price for the event is €15 per person, €10 Heritage Malta members.

Tickets are available from all Heritage Malta's museums and sites and online on a first-come first-served basis.
