Parliamentary Secretary for Agriculture, Fisheries and Animal Rights Clint Camilleri did not have much to say when asked about investigations regarding the former Fisheries Director Andreina Fenech Farrugia.

“From the information that we have, the magisterial inquiry is still ongoing and currently we have no further information on the case. We will wait for further updates,” Camilleri told The Malta Independent on Sunday.

Fenech Farrugia was suspended last February, following allegations that she had demanded money from major Spanish Bluefin tuna kingpin, Jose Fuentes Garcia.

Environment Minister Jose Herrera had confirmed that he had suspended Fenech Farrugia after the Spanish news outlet El Confidential published leaked telephone intercepts by the Spanish authorities allegedly showing how Farrugia had asked Garcia for payment.

When asked for further information on whether there has been any contact between the Spanish and Maltese authorities, Camilleri said that he does not have any of this information.

Last February, Camilleri pledged the government’s full collaboration on the investigations taking place.
