Movember Rock Ball

The Marigold Foundation and TBWA\ANG have announced the Movember Rock Ball, an event to mark the end of the First Edition of the Movember campaign in Malta.

Aside from the heartfelt donations to be put towards this noble cause, Movember in Malta will reach its peak with the First Edition of The Movember Rock Ball being held on 23 November. Before diving into what a rock ball is and when it's on, what is Movember exactly?

Movember is the only charity tackling men's health on a global scale, year-round (www.movember.com/). The goal is simply to stop men dying too young. Men are encouraged to grow a moustache in order to raise funds and awareness about men's health, both physical and mental. In conjunction with Pink October Malta, Movember Malta is looking to show that "being a man" means facing your fears, not sweeping them under the carpet: self-check and visit a healthy professional to follow up.

The launch kicked off with a presentation by Dr Vincent Marmara, who was commissioned by The Marigold Foundation to research cancer awareness in males. Worthy of note from his findings, yet somewhat worrying, is that barely 37% of Maltese males know how to perform the self-examination, whilst 66.1% of the respondents never attempted to do so in their lives. Having said that, the younger generation are more aware of how to self-examine, not to mention that 90% of the respondents are ready to perform their self-examination if shown how to do it properly, tallying with the 97.9% who deem it vital that more information is made readily available to the public, so there are signs that awareness is on the rise thanks to increased collective efforts.

It was also the opportunity for Mrs. Michelle Muscat on behalf of The Marigold Foundation and Fiorella Ellul on behalf of TBWA\ANG respectively to introduce the upcoming Movember Rock Ball. Mrs Muscat said that although "working on a parallel campaign was a challenge, The Marigold Foundation is proud to have got Movember on the national agenda, raising awareness of the issue and getting the message across". Ms. Ellul echoed this observation, stating "It is with great pride and pleasure that we collaborated with The Marigold Foundation to generate awareness around testicular and prostate cancer in particular." Whilst thanking the campaign's sponsors, she explained that supporting such causes comes naturally to TBWA\ANG, and the essence of a rock ball fits in with the agency's counter-convention approach to business when necessary.

Taking place on Saturday 23 November at the Corinthia San Gorg Hotel, The Movember Rock Ball will feature all the best rock tunes, with local band Skarlet to take to the stage with a live performance.

The €45 tickets are your donation to the cause, but there are also more ways to donate: you can also call 517020652 for a €15 donation or 51802053 for a €25 donation, whilst you can send a text message to 50619238 and donate €11.65

If you're wondering 'What on earth do I wear to a rock ball?' the answer is 'Actually, there's no right or wrong outfit to don'. It's a unique opportunity to match daring (rock) with dapper (ball), so be flashy, be smart and make your outfit art.
