A slight tremor was reported in several parts of Malta just before 8.30am as an earthquake hit Crete to the east of the islands.

Readers informed The Malta Independent that they felt a slight shake at 8.25am.

The movement was also recorded by the University seismic activity centre. No damage was reported.
