Covid-19: Malta removed from Slovenia’s travel green-list

Slovenia has become the latest country to remove Malta from its travel green-list owing to the increase in Covid-19 cases on the island.

In recent days, Slovenia moved Malta from its green list, which means that the country is epidemiologically safe, to its yellow list – a middle ground before it is declared that the country has an unstable epidemiological situation (which would result in placement on the red-list).

This means that anybody who is not a Slovenian citizen or a foreign national who can prove that they have a permanent or temporary residence in Slovenia will have to undergo a mandatory quarantine period of 14 days.

The Czech Republic, Switzerland, and three Spanish administrative units were moved onto Slovenia’s yellow-list along with Malta.

The news follows similar changes to Malta’s status in Baltic countries and in Ireland.  Greece meanwhile has made it mandatory for all arrivals from Malta to present a negative Covid-19 test taken a maximum of 72 hours before their flight.

Malta currently has 415 active cases of Covid-19, the highest number it has had since the first case of the virus was found on 7 March, just over five months ago.
