“The Attorney General’s resignation is a clear confirmation that the Nationalist Opposition was right”, PN leader Adrian Delia said on Saturday.
In a party-issued statement reacting to the news that Attorney General Peter Grech had tendered his resignation, Delia said that Grech’s resignation should have happened long ago, especially “when it was evident that instead of defending those who are small, he ended up being a puppet of the Labour Party’s government, which took over the country’s institutions.
Delia noted how the AG had chosen to defend a company like Vitals against the best interest of the Maltese and Gozitans who have ended up being robbed of €250,000 everyday, and was not ready to allow serious cases against the corrupt clique that there was inside Castille under the leadership of Joseph Muscat.
“The Attorney General’s resignation is a clear confirmation that the Nationalist Opposition was right”, the statement read before continuing by adding that the AG is meant to be there to protect the interest of the people and not of the Labour government.
He said that the AG should have resigned when he refused to hand over a copy of the Egrant inquiry to him, hence creating a political imbalance in the country.
The statement read that the AG should leave immediately rather than continue for a few more weeks, and added that someone who holds everyone’s faith need to be appointed in his stead.
