A brush with life experiences

Wednesday, 26 August 2020, 10:30 Last update: about 7 years ago

Who is Carmen Vella Gauci? Vella Gauci is a mature young woman who uses her life experiences, the joys and the pains, in her Art. Vella Gauci always had a passion for art and doodling. "From a very young age I always remember myself drawing and later on in life, painting," Vella Gauci said.

She started off with a passion for watercolours but of late she is using mixed media. "At school my desk was my canvas as I would fill it up with doodlings, which obviously I had to erase, only to start again the following day."

Today, her life is full of art and it has become an integral part of who she is, "it's a necessity for me like the air that I breathe. I sleep with the thought of what the next day will bring to my paintings, what can be improved upon or what can be experimented with. In the morning I wake up full of ideas or challenges - eager to start".

Vella Gauci considers herself an art fanatic. She draws or paints with any medium. It could be a kebab stick, her fingers or cotton buds... "I use anything that tickles or challenges my imagination and I don't stop until I get started and satisfied with the finished piece of artwork.  At times I could paint all night until I see the desired artwork enfold in front of me."

Her second solo exhibition is in a completely new style which she has developed of late. "I love it and it is very much who I am, a bit of a dreamer, lots of energy combined with creativity. I dedicated this exhibition mostly to animals but there are also some pieces dedicated to the human body as well as landscapes."

Visitors are invited to attend this exhibition from 28 until 30 August at Casino Notabile in Rabat.  Opening hours are between 9am and 12pm and from 4 to 8.30pm. Wearing a mask is mandatory and up to three people can be in the venue at any time.
