Sunday, 8 November 2020, 14:09 Last update: about 7 years ago

The annual Remembrance Sunday ceremony was held on Sunday, as the country remembered the war dead.

A pontifical mass was held at St John's Co Cathedral, which was followed by the inspection of the honour guard by the President, and a wreath-laying ceremony at the cenotaph in Floriana.

In the mass, Archbishop Charles Sciclina, quoted from the last encyclical of Pope Francis, Fratelli Tutti, and spoke of the need to remember victims, and said that to reconcile and work for peace is not a question of forgettingthe victims or what happened, but to keep remembering in order to understand the suffering and injustice that there was in order for history not to repeat itself.

He also spoke about Covid-19 and how it is leaving victims. He said that the pandemic is making us remember how important our love for each other is. He appealed to everyone to be responsible in order for there to be fewer victims, and not more.
