Tuesday, 24 November 2020, 14:22 Last update: about 4 years ago

Today, MaltaPost will issue a set of three stamps depicting scenes from fresco painting of 'The Nativity' by Giuseppe Calì. The painting was executed in the late 19th century on the interior of the dome of 'Christ the Saviour' Parish Church in Lija.

This masterpiece embellishes the church by portraying episodes of the Nativity event as detailed in the New Testament; from the Annunciation to the birth of Jesus. The painting recently underwent a restoration process that lasted for a number of years.

The stamps will be issued in a sheet of 10 stamps, with each stamp measuring 44mm x 31mm, a comb perforation 14.0 x 13.9 and bearing the Maltese Cross watermark. The sheets measure 118mm x 185mm and were produced by Printex Ltd in the offset process. The issue consists of 500,000 of the €0.30 stamp, 24,000 of the €0.59 stamp and 24,000 of the €0.63 stamp. The design was set by Miguel Farrugia of MaltaPost and photography is by David P. Attard.
