Rediscovering ‘Faith’

‘I looked at the archive like a giant jigsaw puzzle – clearing out, organising my mind. It became a meditative process, an act of nostalgia,” remarked Amelia Troubridge. “I then began looking for a story about the birth of a nation. A country finding its own identity, freedom, values, direction.’
Spanning 26 years, the works in this exhibition show a journey in Amelia's craft; from her early days as a photographer documenting the first raves in Malta, to documenting the migrant centre in Marsa. In three sections, the exhibition presents Religion and Politics as a reflection of how both elements are an integral part of Malta's cultural identity; Home and Community as Troubridge explores the traditions of a predominantly patriarchal society and Surrender, where she presents a visual commentary of the challenges facing her own life and the world around her. The narrative concludes with her returning to the most natural aspects of this beautiful land to rediscover herself.
Faith is a photographic exhibition by Maltese-English photographer Amelia Troubridge and is curated by Spazju Kreattiv's artistic director Daniel Azzopardi. The exhibition is open at Spazju Kreattiv, Space C until Sunday, 31 January.
