PN MP Kevin Cutajar has said that he will not be discouraged by those who choose to make fun of him due to his disability after a Facebook post doing just that spread on social media.

In a statement on his Facebook page, Cutajar thanked every for their solidarity to him after a picture was uploaded to the Facebook group ‘Nidħku b'xulxin’ – which roughly translates to ‘Laughing at each other’ – offending him through his disability.

“I would have expected that in 2021 we would be mature enough to criticize the argument and not the person.  It’s clear that the person who passed this comment found nothing to criticize about my arguments”, Cutajar said.

He said that this comment and others like it will definitely not discourage him from his work, and added that he will continue to move forward and work so that those who suffer from disability like he does will cease to have to face “stupid treatments” like this.

Condemnation over the Facebook post has been wide, and new PL MP Oliver Scicluna came to Cutajar’s defence as well, saying sarcastically that some “wise” person had tried to make a joke out of his colleague’s disability.

He said that not only does he condemn it, but that he has also filed a report about it as well.

Both the Nationalist Party and Labour Party issued statements of condemnation.
