226 new cases of Covid-19 found, two more patients die

226 new cases of Covid-19 were reported on Wednesday as two more patients passed away while positive for the virus.

It is the second day in a row that over 200 new cases of the virus were reported by health authorities.

In the last 24 hours, an 84-year-old man and a 97-year-old woman passed away at Mater Dei Hospital while positive for the virus.

220 people meanwhile have recovered from the virus, taking the total number of active cases up slightly to 2,504.

3,274 swab tests were carried out on Tuesday, and the number of swab tests administered so far now stands at 684,231 – a figure which includes an additional 1,001 rapid tests carried out in recent weeks.

68,779 doses of the vaccine have now been administered, while 21,767 people have received both doses of the vaccine.

Malta has had 21,532 cases of the virus so far.  18,720 of those have recovered, while 308 have died.
