Holy Week: Church announces additional Covid-19 directives

Monday, 8 March 2021, 16:51 Last update: about 4 years ago

The Curia has announced additional Covid-19 directives for Good Friday and Easter.

It said that Church organisations will not be holding any exhibitions during Holy Week and the washing of feet ceremony will not be held.

Also cancelled are the traditional visits to seven altars on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday, and the kissing of feet of the crucified Christ on Good Friday.

The Church had already cancelled all Good Friday and Easter processions.

In its new statement, it said that only the statues of the Redeemer, the Crucified Christ and our Lady of Sorrows may be taken out in churches during Holy Week. This can only be done privately. The same applies for statues of the Risen Christ.

No processions with these statues are allowed – inside or outside the churches.

Maundy Thursday visits may be done in one church only.

Celebrations will be broadcast on  TVM2, on www.Knisja.mt and Newsbook.com.mt.
