Despite ongoing rumour, no OPM press conference planned so far

UPDATE: The Prime Minister will be addressing a press conference at 6pm.


Despite rumours spreading on social media about an impending press conference by the Prime Minister, there is so far no official confirmation that Robert Abela will be addressing the press today.

The rumour only intensified after it was announced that 510 new Covid-19 cases were found over the past 24 hours.

A press conference by Education Minister Justyne Caruana that was scheduled for 2pm has been cancelled. The Minister has been facing mounting pressure by the teachers’ unions to shift all schools to online learning.

The head of the Union of Professional Educators, Graham Sansone, said a scheduled press conference by the UPE was also being cancelled since the PM ‘would be holding a press conference at 3pm.

But OPM and Health Ministry sources said there was so far no word about any press conferences due to be held today.

A government source said that discussions between the government and the health authorities were ongoing “as per usual” but there is so far no decision on any press conferences.

There has so far been no communication from the office of public health superintendent Charmaine Gauci either.
