Businesses which have suffered during the past year due to Covid-19 should expect more measures to be introduced in the coming weeks to help them get back on their feet, Minister for Energy, Enterprise and Sustainable Development Miriam Dalli told parliament.

“Since March last year, the Ministry for Enterprise has been seeing that it is helps those businesses which have been hit by Covid-19,” she said.

As from this March, the wage supplement will cover up until June 2021, and for those businesses which were gravely hit, they will be provided with help until the month of December.

“We are also providing the full wage supplement to those businesses that due to restrictions, have been closed, so they can retain their employees,” she said.

Through the wage supplement, Dalli noted that businesses benefitted from 340 million to curb the effect on their business and employees.

Dalli noted that the enterprises which did well during this time were the manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, and digital sectors, as they created more and held more jobs than the rest.

“This government is looking at 2 things: To save companies, and for enterprises to have the necessary environment to grow.”
