Monday, 8 November 2021, 13:55 Last update: about 4 years ago

The hours during which excavation and demolition works can take place will be changed as of Tuesday.

Such works will not be permissible after 4pm.

This means that the times will change from how they are today, i.e. between 8am and 2pm and between 4pm and 8pm, and will change to between 7:30am and 4pm. These changes will be published in a legal notice.

Minister for the Environment, Climate Change and Planning Aaron Farrugia together with Parliamentary Secretary for Construction Chris Agius stated that this decision is a result of continuous work towards a more sustainable industry and within the context of the construction reform.

“These steps will strengthen—and not weaken—the construction industry, while the demand of families to reduce inconvenience and noise pollution in the evening hours is being heard.”

Contractors carrying out such works are expected to cooperate in the way they organise their respective sites of work.
